Eric Ervin Esq. is a solo-practitioner attorney in New York City with an office in the artist enclave of Soho. Over his life and career Mr. Ervin has developed a strong sense of values and a love of his craft.
Eric Ervin grew up in San Francisco California attending Saint Ignatius College Preparatory. The stepson of the outwardly liberal criminal defense attorney Tony Serra, Eric was introduced early in life to such bay area music influences as Bill Graham and Santana. At an impressionable age Mr. Ervin recalls playing basketball with Bill Graham back stage at a Grateful Dead show at UC Berkeley’s Greek Theatre.
Mr. Ervin went to New York University for his undergraduate degree, majoring in political science and philosophy. While still in college, Eric began his career in the entertainment industry by working for the Legal and Business Affairs office of the respected independent record label TVT Records. At TVT Eric was responsible for securing the licensing rights for soundtracks and compilations, including the films Scream and Strangeland, Mortal Kombat and various TV’s Greatest Hits compilations. Mr. Ervin was then hired by LoveCat Music Publishing to help start their business operations and oversee administration of publishing rights and licensing deals. At LoveCat, Eric learned the value of the songwriter and control of publishing rights.
From 1999-2002, Mr. Ervin attended Cardozo School of Law in New York City and excelled in its prestigious Intellectual Property program in the areas of copyright and trademark. Following his first year of law school, Eric was hired as a summer associate at the entertainment law firm Rudolph & Beer LLP, where he worked on a variety of projects for such major recording artists as Britney Spears, Aaron Carter and Keith Murray. At Rudolph & Beer, Eric also gained experience working in the independent film industry, assisting on projects involving rights clearances, options, film financing and distribution.
When Rudolph & Beer dissolved in 2002, Eric struck out on his own to develop a solo-practice representing artists of all kinds in the music, film, fashion, nightlife and art worlds. In 2005, Eric moved to an Of Counsel capacity for the boutique entertainment law firm of Kaplan & Gamble LLP, where he covered deals involving music, film, television, fashion and related civil and litigation matters.
In January of 2008, Eric opened his office in New York City’s Soho neighborhood. The Law Office of Eric Ervin, Esq. specializes in entertainment and intellectual property law matters. Mr. Ervin’s practice focuses on providing strategic business affairs counsel in negotiating agreements reaching deals and achieving career goals. Mr. Ervin has experience in a variety of industries including the music, film, television, fashion, publishing and nightlife industries. The bulk of Mr. Ervin’s clients are independent artists and small companies seeking assistance of legal counsel in their development.
